Anogia is very traditional mountain village on Mount Psiloritis, at an altitude of 750m. It is built on three levels in the ridge of Armi, on Mount Psiloritis. The name Anogeia means a place built on a high level.\nAnogia has particularly close relationships with Mount Psiloritis and its landscapes. The locals are mainly animal farmers and are known for their hospitality. Here you can find genuine Cretans who twist their mustaches and still wear the traditional costumes. The residents of Anogia seem to enjoy every moment of their lives and do not hesitate to express their joy with feasts, but if their pride is violated then guns talk!\nIn the main part of the village you will find several tavernas where you can get a taste of the local delicacy which is roasted lamb or 'antikristo' lamb which is cooked in the most traditional Cretan way of cooking meat. 'Antikristo' means 'opposite' as the meat is placed opposite the flame to cook slowly. There are also shops where you can buy home-made textiles and various other souvenirs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
