Preveli Palm Forest Beach Tour

Let South Crete Safari take you to Preveli Palm Forest Beach, one of the most famous beaches of Crete and home to the exotic Palm forest of Preveli, which is located at the mouth of the Kourtaliotiko Gorge. This is the second largest Palm forest in Crete after Vai in the far East of the island.

Starting at our pick-up point in Matala, we will take you to Preveli Palm beach through alternative mountain roads with spectacular views along the way. When we arrive at Preveli beach, you will cross the stone step pathway with magical views to get to the beach where the steep Kourtaliotiko Gorge meets the clear blue Lybian Sea to form a cool lagoon and sandy beach, a tropical paradise amidst the dry rocky Mediterranean terrain.

Here you will have time to explore the river and forest, have a swim in the fresh water and relax.

By this time, you will have built up an appetite, so it's time to drive along the breath-taking coast to get to the well-known beach of Triopetra where you will enjoy a magnificent meal of seafood in a family taverna right next to the sea. (Vegan, vegetarian and meat dishes also available.)
After lunch, it's time to continue our off-road journey along the coast to the lively fishing village of Agia Galini. (Saint of Tranquility.) Here you can enjoy a refreshment, explore the shops or have a swim in the calm waters of the sea in which, as legend has it, is the place where Ikarus, son of the master craftsman Daedalus, the creator of the Labyrinth, hid in a cave before starting the doomed flight in which he fell and drowned when his wings made of wax melted after flying too close to the sun.

We then head back to Komos Beach for a safari in the sand and a brilliant sunset before returning to matala.
