Es\nhandelt sich dabei um die Ruinen einer kleinen minoischen Stadt aus dem\nJahr 2000 v. Christus.\nMan nimmt an, dass die antike St\u00e4tte der Haushafen der in der N\u00e4he\ngelegenen Stadt Festos war. Von hier aus wurde Festos mit G\u00fctern und\nWaren beliefert.\nEs handelt sich um ein gesch\u00fctztes arch\u00e4ologisches Gebiet. Der Zugang zu\nden Ruinen ist eingeschr\u00e4nkt.<br>Direkt gegen\u00fcber von der arch\u00e4ologischen St\u00e4tte, etwa 300 Meter Richtung\nMeer, befindet sich ein gro\u00dfer Felsen der von den Einheimischen Volakas\ngenannt wird.\nDer griechischen Mythologie nach ist Volakas die Spitze eines Felsbrockens,\nden ein geblendeter Zyklop auf das Schiff von Odysseus warf, um dessen\nFlucht aus der H\u00f6hle vom Polyphem zu verhindern.<br>Der Strand von Komos ist auch f\u00fcr die gesch\u00fctzten Karettschildkr\u00f6ten\n(Caretta Caretta) bekannt. Sie kommen von Mai bis September an Land und\nlegen ihre Eier im Sand ab. Um die Nester nicht zu zerst\u00f6ren, sollte man bei\nSpazierg\u00e4ngen am Strand darauf achten, wo man hintritt.<br>Der Strand von Komos ist auch f\u00fcr die gesch\u00fctzten Karettschildkr\u00f6ten\n(Caretta Caretta) bekannt.
